Dr. Gillian L. Hale is a medical director of anatomic pathology at ARUP Laboratories and an assistant professor at the University of Utah School of Medicine. Dr. Hale received her medical degree from George Washington University. She then completed an anatomic and clinical pathology residency and a gastrointestinal and liver pathology fellowship, both at the University of California at San Francisco. Dr. Hale is a member of the Binford-Dammin Society of Infectious Diseases and her research interests include infections of the liver and gastrointestinal tract.

Objectives

After this presentation, participants will be able to:

Describe the differential diagnosis for a variety of infections based on clinical presentation, epidemiological and morphologic features
Recognize key morphologic features of unusual infections that aid in identification and diagnosis
Identify ancillary testing that can be utilized in the diagnosis of infectious diseases
