Milan System for Salivary Gland FNA

This presentation will focus on the newly proposed Milan System for Reporting Salivary Gland Cytopathology. The categories, diagnostic criteria, associated risks of malignancy, and typical clinical management will all be discussed. The role of ancillary testing in refining diagnoses will also be addressed.

Dr. Krane joined the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA in June 2019 as a Professor of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine and the Director of the Cytopathology fellowship program. Previously, he was at Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston for 26 years where he served as the Associate Director of Cytology and the Chief of Head and Neck Pathology. Dr. Krane has broad interests in neoplasia of the head and neck region. Particular areas of research interest are in salivary gland and thyroid cytopathology and HPV-associated malignancy of the head and neck region. Dr. Krane is a former member of the Executive Board of the American Society of Cytopathology and is currently an Associate Editor of Cancer Cytopathology. He has co-authored/contributed to several books including The Bethesda System for Reporting Thyroid Cytopathology and The Milan System for Reporting Salivary Gland Cytopathology.
