The goal of diagnostic stewardship in laboratory medicine is to improve diagnostic accuracy and optimize patient treatment. This presentation will highlight the role of the clinical microbiologist in diagnostic stewardship by highlighting examples of successful interventions and the methods employed.

Nicholas Moore, PhD is an associate professor of medical laboratory science in the College of Health Sciences with secondary appointments in pathology and medicine in Rush Medical College. He completed his bachelor's degree in investigative and medical sciences at Saint Louis University in St. Louis, MO. He completed his MS and PhD at Rush University in Chicago, IL.

His research focuses on the epidemiology of multiple drug-resistant organisms, antiseptic and biocide resistance in Gram-negative bacilli, leveraging new technology to improve the laboratory testing, and the use of advanced molecular diagnostics to inform infection control decision-making related to nosocomial outbreaks.
