Overview of Genotyping for RBC Antigen Characterization


This presentation explores how DNA sequence analysis can be used to support blood bank testing and transfusion decision making. It compares serologic phenotyping with molecular genotyping, reviewing the strengths, limitations, and clinical applications of each approach. Specific applications of genotyping for Rh blood group determination are reviewed, including testing in recently or chronically transfused patients, characterization of weak D variants, and non-invasive fetal RhD testing using cell-free DNA.
